Is It Really Worth Being On Social Media?

Welcome to the wonderful world of social media.

A world where there are “over 3.48 billion social media users in 2019. That’s roughly 42% of the world’s population and 80% of internet users.” (Global Digital Report, 2019)

Needless to say, it is a very busy, competitive and overloaded world.

If you’re thinking of getting onto social media, getting your business onto social media, and getting leads/ customers from social media, then proceed with caution and understanding in this hectic world.

Understand that there are 3.48 billion users on social media today. That it is a very competitive pool.

In 2010, there were less than 1 billion users on social media. This point needs to be made because of a lot of the success stories and incredible ROI tales seem to stem from 2010 - 2012.

Gone are the days where you could spend £3 on Facebook advertising per day for the entire UK and get positive results. (Seriously, I saw businesses get incredible results for this in 2010.)

Gone are the days where your business may be the first in its industry, sector, city, town on social media and so you were easily findable, reachable and contactable.

The stories you may be reading about are old and redundant (in social media years).

Today, I see businesses needing to spend £45 - £100 per day of a 15mile radius. That’s an incredible 1,400% increase in advertising spend daily, with a radius reduction of 98% in less than 10 years.

If you haven’t got the advertising spend on social media, then your approach must be highly strategic and used in an alternative way.

We have a handful of solutions we advise our clients to use social media for, which always change depending on the industry, trends and the time of year.

You may be wondering is there any point to your business being on social media?

Absolutely. Being on social media can have a positive impact on your business. Yet, do consider this;

What month and year it is? Right now as you are reading this?

Take a moment to acknowledge what behaviour you do most on social media. Yes, you personally. This isn’t 2010 when posts on Facebook would be enough, or 2015 when photos on Instagram would be enough.

In 2019, “80% of all content consumed is video.” (Socialnomics, 2019).

What video(s) are you creating and where is your business advertising?

Do you have a YouTube channel? If not, think about having targeting social media campaigns which pop up with certain YouTube videos.

There are many solutions to social media marketing for businesses. As social media usage, popularity and experiences offered to users are growing year-on-year your business can significantly benefit from being on social media.

Just understand, marketing for businesses on social media should be a lot more than simply posting on Facebook and Instagram.
